NORTHWEST ARKANSAS, March 10, 2009 – In its first full year of operation, the Northwest
Arkansas Community Creative Center (NWACCC) has awarded $4,525 in scholarships in 2008 to
both children and adults. The tuition scholarships were offered to students from local public schools
for a wide variety of art education classes at the facility. NWACCC’s goal is to double the amount
of awarded scholarships over the next two years. If NWACCC receives additional donations,
potentially supported by a recently submitted grant, NWACCC will increase this amount even more.
Any public school student who currently qualifies for the free lunch program is eligible for NWACCC
funding and is encouraged to apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are available also to children
who do not attend public school.
In 2008, NWACCC served 431 adults and 480 children with 32 types of visual arts classes, focusing
on clay, but also including watercolor, photography and crafts. In addition to support from the Arkansas
Arts Council, the Center was also supported last year by donations from the Martin Foundation, Billy Jo
Starr and Daymara Baker.Â
