Northwest Arkansas Community Creative Center Receives Grant from the Arkansas Arts Council and Hires Susan Hutchcroft as Executive Director

The Northwest Arkansas Community Creative Center (NWACCC) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded an Expansion Arts Program grant from the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage. NWACCC received a congratulatory letter from Governor Mike Beebe last Friday, May 16. The three-year grant is to be used for the salary of an Executive Director (ED). “This grant allows us to hire our first paid-employee for our creative center. Susan Hutchcroft will serve as the organization’s new ED. She will lead the development of our 3-year strategic plan; oversee the design, promotion and delivery of our programs; and build partnerships and relationships with regional arts organizations and potential sponsors,” Daymara Baker, Chairman of the NWACCC Board of Directors explained. “The goal of our center is to foster creativity and art excellence by providing affordable workshops and classes for all community residents, particularly challenged and underprivileged children in Washington and Benton Counties.”
Susan Hutchcroft is one of NWACCC’s founders and has served as the center’s Board Chairman since NWACCC began operating in July 2007. She worked as the Artist in Residence and the Studio Coordinator while the center was part of the Walton Arts Center (WAC) from 2000 to 2007. During this time, Hutchcroft worked closely with WAC’s education manager developing course curriculums, hiring and assisting studio artists, coordinating studios, supplies, volunteers and facilities, and assisting patrons of all ages. “It was as though WAC was grooming me for this job. I cannot thank the Arkansas Arts Council enough for the opportunity to learn and expand NWACCC with their support and guidance. To be working with such a creative and talented organization is a dream come true for me,” said Hutchcroft. Hutchcroft relinquished her role as NWACCC Board Chairman to become the ED. Baker has been appointed the new Board Chairman.

“We are very excited about our first grant from the Arkansas Arts Council. The Arts Council's financial support and training will help our center significantly in our mission to deliver high quality visual art programs to children and adults in NW Arkansas," said Deirdre Aureden, NWACCC Board Member and grant writer.

NWACCC is a non-profit community, educational and professional development organization dedicated to supporting traditional and contemporary artists working in the visual arts. It was established in April 2007 as a 501c3 organization. Located in the Nadine Baum Studios (NBS) in Fayetteville, NWACCC offers arts classes and provides open studio times. Although now a separate entity, NWACCC is an outgrowth of a visual arts program established by the Walton Arts Center (WAC) in 2000. To learn more about NWACCC, visit nwaccc.org.
